Best of Reach

2020•12:43

I originally had big plans for this video, but a loss of motivation for Halo combined with an increase in school, work, and other hobbies made me quite relieved to just stitch this together in the classic Dillpickles fashion - clips and music. When I decided to start compiling all my best/favorite clips from this, I got hit with a wave of nostalgia. From rewatching all my old videos, to searching through all my local files. There are forge maps from 2010/11 my brother and I made I would walk through, old screenshots found that took me back to sleepovers with my friends, and stupid films that brought me back to my childhood. When Halo Reach released in 2010, I was 8 years old at the time (4th grade), just shy of 9. Now I am about 4 days away from being 19, halfway through college with a bright future I've laid out for myself. It's truly crazy to think I have invested time on this single game for a decade. I'll never forget when I was worried about downloading KeepVid to upload my first YouTube video in 2012 because as I naive 10 year old, I didn't want to get a virus. As nerdy as it is, I sometimes track life through my old Halo videos. Like if a video was uploaded in 2013, it immediately takes me back to everything else in my life and how much it has changed. There are people from that era who I haven't heard anything of since, and people who I am still grateful to actively talk to today. It is absolutely mindboggling to see where I was when I first started playing this game versus where I am now. I am not one to get emotional or really show my emotions, however I will say that when I was compiling for this video I couldn't help but smile about the times of my childhood on this game. It's difficult to capture what exactly I am trying to say here haha. I am going to properly thank everyone and state my closing thoughts on my final video, however I felt it was necessary to pour my thoughts into this description - Reach was my first Halo, and the memories on it will stay with me forever. I will forever miss the times of playing with my brother, neighbor, or friends and not having a care in the world. Nostalgia is my kryptonite, yet I am happy to close this chapter of my life and move forward with happy thoughts and pursue my goals. Thank you.
